Sarwar Bhatti Claimed Copyrights Violation- Back In 2017
Pakistani movie ‘The Legend of Maula Jatt’ trailer released by the producer Ammara Hikmat and Director Bilal Lashari. On this Sarwar Bhatti who is the producer of the original film. The Legend of Maula Jatt claimed a copyrights violation of the characters, dialogues, and story, etc. He said that Ammara Hikmat and Bilal Lashari first took their cases then he would withdraw. So for the two years, the ugly legal battle was going on between the two parties. Although both of them clarified that the movie was not a remake.
Still, In October 2017, Bhatti moved to court and got a stay order. The reason is the Bahoo Films which is the production house of Sarwar Bhatti owns the rights to the Maula Jatt story which is the 1979 Punjabi blockbuster. So, consequently, the release of Lashari Pakistani film was obstructed. The Lashari’s team also filed cases against Bhatti. Both had made a tussle.
Ammara Hikmat stated that the rights of Pakistani movie Maula Jatt are with Adeeb, and not Bhatti who just owns the film’s cinematographic rights. She also claimed that Bhatti is now demanding a 50% cut in the film’s profits. Moreover, He claims the right to distribute the film through his Bahoo Films company. Later, she also sent an Rs500 million legal notice to Bhatti’s sons for running a deception campaign on social media.
Then Bhatti also Claims that he approached the Intellectual Property Organisation of Pakistan (IPO-Pakistan) court in which the court had issued a stay order. He declared that the court had favor earlier in the trademark case.

Now things are going to be better. As Bhatti was blamed by Advocate Almas Jovindah who was speaking on behalf of Saim Jamil for not being the sole owner of Bahoo Films Corporation. In a press conference, He revealed that Corporation was “enrolled under an association deed between six partners. Among them, Chaudhry Jamil and Sarwar Bhatti are the principal speculators. Then He presented legal documents that carried the original partnership deed signed in 1978. Under which all films produced under the banner were the owner of the corporation. Moreover, it did not belong to any single individual, as portrayed by Sarwar Bhatti.
Recently, The Sindh High Court has issued a stay order against Bhatti and his sons. In which it restrains them from damaging the reputation of Pakistani movie The Legend of Maula Jatt and its makers, Bilal Lashari and Ammara Hikmat. So this is another win for the makers of the Pakistani new film and the whole team.
Bhatti’s Statement Ended The Controversy
Bhatti gives a statement in which ‘He regards this decision on his desire for the revival and progress of local cinema.‘.
He said: In my career, I did my best for the welfare and progress of the local Pakistani film industry. If this industry encouraged and strengthened by withdrawing the case. Then I will definitely do so because local releases across the country must benefit the industry. Ammara Hikmat and Bilal Lashari are just like my children. All kids make mistakes and it’s our duty to forgive them. I am willing to put everything behind me. I will no longer be a hurdle in the release of the legend of Maula Jatt.
He also said that’ I allowed them for using copyrights of only my Pakistani movie ‘Maula Jatt’. He also asked them to take back the cases they filed against him. ” The Producer said that Ammara Hikmat & Bilal Lashari can release their film anytime or on Eid-ul-Fitr. I will support them”.

Ammara Hikmat talks on Twitter and shared a legal notice from the court. This legal notice confirmed that there is no “stay order” on the film. She wrote: “Lahore High Court clarifies that there is No stay order on the release of #TheLegendOfMaulaJatt.
Moreover, she said on Twitter that the release of Pakistani movie delayed due to some different reasons. Such as strategic reasons not any kind of legal issue.
The legend of Maula Jatt release date is not confirmed yet. But the film is supposed to release on Eid Al Fitr 2020
