Lionel Messi’s father, Jorge, has expressed his desire to see his son return to Barcelona in the future.

Jorge was filmed by Spanish Twitch channel Jijantes FC as he arrived in Barcelona and was asked about Lionel’s future.

“I hope Leo can return to Barcelona one day,” he said, with his son having just one season left on his PSG contract.

Messi was forced to leave Barcelona last summer after the club were told they could not afford his wages due to La Liga limits.

He then joined PSG, where he has scored six goals and assisted 13 in Ligue 1 this season, helping them win back the French top-flight title.

The forward was unable to help them lift their first Champions League title, however, and has even faced boos from PSG fans.

That has led to talk that Messi could be keen on leaving the club at the end of the season.

The superstar said he “did everything possible to stay” at Barca before he left, having joined the club’s famed La Masia academy as a 13-year-old before becoming their greatest ever player and all-time top goalscorer.

And with Messi’s former teammate and captain Xavi now manager of the Spanish giants, perhaps a deal for the club legend to return isn’t completely out of the question in the near future.

The 34-year-old also recently spoke about his intentions to return to the Nou Camp, but in an off-the-field role with the Catalan club.

“I have always said that I would love to help the club and to be useful,” Messi said in an interview with Sport.

“I would love to be a sporting director at some point. I don’t know if it will be in Barcelona or not, or if it will be something else.

“If the opportunity arises, I would like to go back and contribute what I can because it’s the club I love and I would love them to keep doing well, [to continue] growing and being one of the best in the world.”
