Mohammed Kudus believes Neymar isn’t a better footballer than him, saying the Brazil and Paris Saint-German star just has a higher profile.

Kudus, one of the most exciting young talents around, is preparing to make his World Cup debut which sees his Ghana side pitted in a very competitive group.

The Black Stars are up against Uruguay, South Korea and Portugal, who they face first on Wednesday afternoon, live on talkSPORT.

Ghana will have to upset the applecart if they want to make it out of the group, and getting a result against Cristiano Ronaldo and co would be the perfect opportunity to send a message across the world.

But it appears Kudus is looking beyond arguably the toughest group of Qatar 2022 with a potential last-16 clash against Brazil, who are favourites to finish top of Group G, in the offing.

It would also mean a second showdown with Neymar, with the two getting into a confrontation when Ghana faced Brazil in France.

The match in September was just a friendly but the exchange was anything but, Kudus starting things by coming steaming into Neymar and treading on his foot.

Neymar saw red at that point as he ignored the play going on around him and made a beeline for Kudus, tripping him up off the ball.

The referee duly stopped play to have a word with the two before sending them on their way with orders to play nicely.

It seems like Kudus is ready for round two against a player who he feels he’s in the same league as.

On Neymar, Kudus told The Guardian: He’s not better than me. He’s just a higher profile player, that’s all.”

On the skirmish, Kudus added: “He was defending his country and I was defending mine. I wasn’t about to let him push me around… what makes him better, for now, is that he has achieved a lot.

“I’ll get there soon.”

Kudus added: “We could meet again, yeah? Me and Neymar, part two. I’m sure he would enjoy it.”

The 22-year-old attacking midfielder has been turning heads this season having netted ten goals for Ajax, four of them coming in the Champions League – one an emphatic finish against Liverpool at Anfield.

Kudus was linked with a move to their Merseyside rivals Everton in the summer and didn’t rule out the prospect of joining them in the future.

He said: “I thought [Everton] was a good project for me and why not?

“It’s not like it’s my first season at Ajax, it’s my third. So, if I’m not seeing the progress I’m looking for then why not try something else?”

But for now Kudus’ dreams are focused on emulating World Cup performances of previous Ghana sides.

Kudus said: “I know exactly where I want to be and I’m not stopping until my dream is achieved.

“I watched the 2010 World Cup team [that reached the quarter-finals] as a kid and I’ve always wanted to be part of something like that.”
