Callum Wilson suffered a gruesome injury on his return to Newcastle’s starting XI with the striker’s tooth being dislodged during their clash against Arsenal.

The 30-year-old received treatment on the sidelines in the 27th minute as cameras showed his gum bleeding while his front right tooth was hanging down.

To Wilson’s credit, he returned to action almost instantly with no doubt a lot of pain surging through his mouth.

It’s rotten luck for the striker, who is making his first start since sustaining a calf injury which had kept him out since January.

However, Wilson got a better slice of luck in the second half as he was heavily involved in giving Newcastle the lead.

A rapid attack saw Joelinton break through down the left-hand side, the Brazilian then searched for Wilson with a cross and the ball dropped into the net.

At first glance it appeared Wilson had scored, however, replays show the ball came off the trailing leg of Arsenal defender Ben White.

Mikel Arteta’s men are in need of a win to stay in control of their ability to finish in fourth place with Tottenham going above them after edging past Burnley at the weekend.

This could well be a crucial goal in the top four raceAFP

But Arsenal have looked nervous throughout with Newcastle going close on a number of occasions.
