Afghan Taliban government asked permission to address the United Nations general assembly in New York this week. In which they have decided to nominate their Doha-based spokesman Suhail Shaheen as Afghanistan’s UN ambassador.
Taliban Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi had sent a letter to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in which he requested for the representation of nine members in the Credentials Committee for a decision. Therefore Guterres’ spokesperson, Farhan Haq, approved the Taliban Foreign Minister’s letter.
Taliban pointed out the Sohail Shaheen a UN ambassador and also the Afghanistan ambassador Ghulam Isaczai representing in New York and Taliban asked them that their mission is over and they were removed from their positions.
The Afghan Taliban introduces new faces for the group that would be shifted in the interim government and covers the remaining slots of the cabinet. The members that were chosen are for the betterment and change of the government.
The new ministers appointed are Nooruddin Azizi, a prominent investor from the northeastern Panjshir province, tasked to lead the Commerce and Trade Ministry, while Mohammad Azim Sultanzada and Mohammad Bashir, two traders from the northern Sar-e-Pul and Baghlan provinces, respectively, to serve as deputy heads of the ministry.
Dr. Qalandar Ibad will serve as the acting minister of health, while Dr. Abdul Bari Omar and Dr. Mohammad Hassan Ghiasi as acting deputy ministers of health. There are two Taliban commanders adr Mohammad Ibrahim and Abdul Qayyum Zakir are shifted to the positions of deputy ministers at the interior and defense ministries.
Mujeeb-ur-Rehman Omar will serve as the acting deputy minister of power and energy, Haji Ghulam Ghaus as the acting deputy minister of disaster management, Haji Gul Mohammad the acting deputy minister of borders, and Arsala Kharoti as the acting deputy minister of refugees.
Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahed gave a statement “These appointments, which are largely based on professionalism and competence, will further strengthen and standardize the structure of the Islamic Emirate.”
